Talisman is a big, beautiful, barrel-aged barleywine.
Our barleywine is Brewer Jon's signature brew, and this batch was allowed to age for more than 12 months in 45th Parallel Distillery rye barrels.
Brewed for the cellar, this big beer is meant for aging and is a beer collector's dream. We recommend cellaring Talisman for at least a year, but thanks to the high alcohol percentage, you could wait for 5 years for optimal cellared flavor experience.
The grain bill for this English-style barleywine has always been only 2 malts: English Pale and Weyermann Chocolate Rye. Together these two malts create a mildly sweet yet spicy flavor profile. This backbone compliments and balances the boozy barrel flavors.
Going in to the barrels, this beer was a little over 11% abv. After a year of patiently waiting, this year's Talisman emerged at a whopping 15% abv.
We encourage beer and sour enthusiasts to cellar The Brewer’s Reserve blends anywhere from 6 months to 5 years.

For the larger portion of this blend, Brewer Jon used a saison yeast strain in the primary fermentation, then transferred the beer to the barrels immediately after fermentation slowed.
Brewer Jon is also a bit fanatical about German hefeweizens, so he fermented a small portion of this blend with a German weisse yeast strain in the primary fermentation - just to add a little touch of whimsy and personality.
